When you arrive at camp, please find and ask for the Welcome Team! Your welcome experience will include your camp check-in, orientation, and placement. Also, please look for an email titled Magellan's Discourse on Arrivals and Vehicle Parking @ BWB-BRC with detailed info.
Arrival / Placement
If you arrive in the night, please find a safe place to park and sleep. In the morning you must find placement to find out where you will be parked and camped. Very rarely do people camp next to their cars, please speak to placement before you arrive with any questions. find them on the #placement channel on Slack. Once you are placed and all settled in, please find the welcome team for your camp orientation.
I arrived at camp and build is still happening?!
We have an amazing build crew of dedicated campers who show up as much as a week early to get things ready. We are probably going to be building/decorating our camp until MONDAY NIGHT. When you show up on Sunday or Monday, please realize that you are coming into an active build and that WE NEED YOUR energy, because our crew has already been building hard for a week. After you acclimate, drink water, and set up your personal space, we expect you to jump in to support the completion of camp. And this is fun! You’ll get to do things that you don’t normally do, maybe even play with power tools, and be of service in a way that feels good for YOU.
Party foul alert: Do not plan to arrive on Playa, drop your stuff, and immediately hop on your bike to go find the party while our build team is still running around trying to get camp ready.
Camp belongs to everyone and succeeds with everyone. Monday is designated build day and ends with our community-wide opening ceremony/intro meeting/and first all-camp dinner. Plan on spending the majority of Monday at camp, plugging in where needed to get ready for our official programming, which begins on Tuesday for the BRC public.
On Monday after dinner, we will celebrate the completion of camp with an **All Camp Roll Out** and fire pit to take in the sights of BRC. It’s going to feel so good rolling out in our finery knowing that we just accomplished some badass team-style building and are ready for our programming to start.
Everyone is expected to stay through the last day aka Monday 9/5. We need the vast majority to help break down on Monday (through MONDAY NIGHT). It is not OK to leave early because you are tired or cranky. Guess What? Everybody is- but we all still love one another anyways!
Please allow extra time for breaking down general camp structures, as well as your own. We’ll have coordinators to direct you on what needs to come down and when. These include shade structures, kitchen, and some fierce LNT moop pick-up. We usually have a pretty significant pile of people’s abandoned stuff at the end, which is not at all cool, so please claim all your items, food, and whatnot from the common areas.
Those who must leave early on Sunday Monday morning are expected to participate in a breakdown blitzkrieg on Sunday afternoon. This will mainly be breaking down the main stage room. Mush Mush!
BWB-BRC is able to provide substantial shade for our tent campers. But if you have extra shade, please bring it! We’ll be able to span extra shade off of RVs and trailers. In BRC, we can never have enough shade!
Kitchen & Meal Plan
The kitchen is the heart of any home, and the kitchen at BWB BRC is no different! This is the one area where everyone can plan to spend at least one volunteer shift. Many participants find joy in nourishing our camp
Your share in the Kitchen includes:
8 delicious vegetarian sunset dinners Sunday - Sunday, using Nevada-sourced & sustainably-grown ingredients as possible.
If you are unable to make dinner, please ask a friend to make you a plate and set it aside for you!
Leftover lunches at midday (often self-serve)
Special diet arrangements - vegan, gluten-free, and allergy options (by pre-arrangement only!) Please always double and triple confirm with the meal lead re: food allergies.
1-2 volunteer-ipate shifts in the kitchen.
A place to enjoy your meal in the company of your friends and campmates.
Bring Your Own:
Snacks/meals before Sunday dinner + breakfast items + special beverages.
Personal use water for bathing/cleaning (we will not have drinking water for non-BWB campers)
Your own dishware (bowl & plate both recommended), drinking vessels & cutlery.
A way to pack out all your own trash & recycling & compost
Cleanliness & hygiene in the kitchen
BWB camp is volunteer-run and is a participatory experience! Every camp member is contributing in different ways, which is what makes this camp so awesome. We need all hands on deck to make this camp the best it can be! We always need help setting up, tearing down, and keeping the camp and common areas clean. If you’re interested in doing something specific or want to have a more involved role, please let us know!
Besides being a generally good and communicative campmate, the following are considered the minimum participation requirement at camp during the event:
(2) Camp Volunteer Shifts
(1) Kitchen Shift
∞∞∞Always Leaving No Trace/ Picking up MOOP whenever it exists
∞∞∞ Staying until Monday night and helping with camp tear down (a whole other email coming about Checking Out of Camp and LNT so don’t panic)
Before getting to playa, all campers should have spoken with Molly or Jaymie about your volunteer shifts. Schedules will be sent out in mid-August. If you are unsure about your volunteer shift times, connect with Molly Rose or Jaymie upon arrival/placement at camp or on Monday before the camp meeting. You can check the schedule posted on the shipping container throughout the week. It’s your responsibility to keep track of the day and show up for your shifts- we are all depending on you and we see you when you show up for camp.

Ecozoic Biofilter Toilets
We will have 4 composting toilets this year, yay! The Ecozoic friends will come by to check on things once a day (but they don’t need servicing!), but please, these are OUR porta-potties that WE pay for so... keep them nice and clean!
We encourage guests to use these toilets at the front of camp. We will have one set of potties in our front of house, that will be available for use for people interacting in camp, attending our speaker programming, or spending time with friends in our space.
The midcamp toilets are our personal ones, so please don’t reveal their location to strangers!
Also while we do our best to have enough toilet paper and hand sanitizer-- this is Burning Man, and it's ultimately your responsibility-- so have your own supply for moments when we might run out.
Drinking Water
BWB provides drinking water to its campers. However, we require campers to bring some of their own drinking water for entrance, exodus, and emergencies (which have happened). Several gallons should be OK. You must also bring all your own water for bathing, showering, washing, etc! Drinking water does not count. If you ever encounter an empty water cooler, don't walk away- fill it up instead!
Showers
Showers at Burning Man are a special experience. We have been blessed this year with shower infrastructure. This is explicitly for our campers. Greywater is a serious issue. Please do not invite anyone from outside of our camp to use our showers. We all need to work together to make sure that our showers can be epic for all of our campers. Some important shower guidelines:
Showers are not meant to be an everyday activity. Grey water is a serious issue that we need to deal with, and with a camp as large as ours, it can get out of control very fast. A gentle guideline is that you might take a maximum of two showers during your time in Black Rock City.
Again, these showers are for our campers only. Do not invite anyone from outside of camp to use our showers.
WATER FOR SHOWERS IS NOT PROVIDED. You MUST bring your own shower water.
YOU MUST be onboarded by our shower team to understand how to use the shower without making a mess of water on the playa.
Trash/Recycling/Grey Water/Compost
The garbage, recycling, and grey water near the kitchen are for kitchen use only. We will have a place for your to wash your dishes (yay!) but, understandably, we cannot accommodate for the waste of 100+ people. And of course, you are responsible for packing out all your own trash/recycling- it’s Burning Man! But look, they’ve put together a lovely list for us- http://blog.burningman.com/2012/07/environment/the-burners-guide-to-leaving-no-trace-extra-extra/
MOOP (Matter out of Place) aka trash
Keep your camp and play areas clean! This means sometimes picking up stuff that isn’t yours.. Leave No Trace rates every camp on the MOOP Map every year, if we can’t be bothered to clean up after ourselves, everyone will know! We’re all in this together - please do your part! If you see something on the ground, pick it up right away.
Bikes
Bikes are a pretty big part of Burning Man-- and BWB camp has been working to make our bicycle situation easier. We recommend ALL campers (whether renting or not) bring a lock for their bike. Otherwise, it’s likely you’ll lose it-- we promise. (It can also come in handy for locking up big coats onto your bike)
We have some bikes available for camper's use, please contact the Bike Lead for more info. If you are interested in leaving your bike in our storage space for Burning Man 2024 please bring $50 with you so that we can check your bike storage program.
